| Antigua worth knowing
ENGLISH HARBOUR, ANTIGUA: The island with 365 powdery-sand beaches, one for each day of the year, is one of the least-known Caribbean islands to most Americans. But two Brits, Adm. Horatio Nelson and guitarist Eric Clapton, were and are very familiar with Antigua, a former British colony that is popular with yachters and the the nautical crowd. Nelson commanded the British naval base and shipyard at English Harbour on the island's southern coast in the 1780s. His dockyard no longer caters to naval ships. Instead, it serves sailing ships and yachts. Clapton has built his $8 million house along the rocky southern shore not far from English Harbour, as well as a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. Antigua has been a second home to Clapton. English Harbour is one of the top tourist hubs on Antigua, along with Dickenson Bay on the north coast.

Pop Tarts: Top Ten Celebrity Meltdowns: Who Went Mad and Made a Mess ...
And while Britney Spears won't be winning any awards for her VMA performance, she does (surprise, surprise) take the gold for the greatest meltdown of the year, topping Pop Tarts' list of Tinseltown's most troubled. "2007 has probably been the worst year of Britney's life, with so many bizarre behaviors — fights with the paparazzi and her mother, custody battles, binge drinking and car accidents. However, the number one meltdown is the shaving of her head," said Patrick Wanis, a psychologist and celebrity behavior expert who worked with Pop Tarts to compile the Top Ten. "Few people realized how serious this incident was and what it signified. Although in some cultures shaving the head can represent cleansing or letting go of the old self, in Britney's case it was really more about self-mutilation and self-loathing than a spiritual ritual." But Brit is in close company with her former panty-free party pals Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, who take second and third place respectively.
Ex-reliever Beck, 38, found dead
Rod Beck, a relief pitcher who wore a bushy mustache while earning 286 career saves, was found dead Saturday. He was 38. Beck was found by police officers responding to a call to his home in suburban Phoenix, according to police department spokesman Andy Hill. Foul play is not suspected, though the cause of death might not be known for several days. With long hair framing a menacing stare and an aggressive arm swing before delivering a pitch, the outgoing right-hander was a memorable baseball personality and a three-time All-Star who twice led the NL in saves. He spent the first seven of his 13 major league seasons with the San Francisco Giants. .
